Biometric attendance in Odisha Colleges

In a new move to maintain student presence, the Government has started Biometric attendance in Odisha Colleges. The pilot project in this regard has been started in ten colleges across the state.

According to reliable reports, the biometric attendance system shall be implemented in colleges in Odisha. The pilot project will start in 10 higher education institutions. Biometric attendance system will be used for digital records and verification.

Biometric attendance in Odisha Colleges has been implemented under the ‘Odisha Gyanodaya Shiksharu Samruddhi Scheme’. This system is being implemented as a minimum of 75% class attendance is required for the beneficiaries under the scheme.

Gyanodaya Shiksharu Samruddhi is a Scheme that fulfills the State Government’s commitment to Free Education from KG to PG. Beginning from the Academic Session 2026–27, the scheme will benefit over 32 lakh students every year by removing financial barriers to education.

The Biometric attendance in Odisha Colleges will include student name registration, biometric data record, attendance record and data synchronization with HIMS. The list of colleges in which student biometric has been implemented is as follows:
M.P.C. Autonomous College, Mayurbhanj, Bikram Dev University, Jaipur, Utkal University, Vani vihar, Model Degree College, Boudh, Government Degree College, Tentulikhunti, Udayanath Autonomous College, Edshapur, B.J.B. Autonomous College, Bhubaneswar, Kantabanji Vocational Degree College, Balangir, Bhadrak Autonomous College, Bhadrak and Prananath Autonomous College, Khordha

To give attendance on HIMS Mobile App, Attendance will be recorded only if the student’s mobile GPS location is within the prescribed limits of the college. Also, taking live photos will be mandatory. Attendance will have to be submitted by the teachers by taking live photos in the class.

It is worth mentioning here that, later the system will be implemented statewide. Based on the experience and feedback from the pilot project, the system will be evaluated, improved and stabilized. Thereafter, it is proposed to implement it statewide in other eligible higher education institutions.
