The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is considering dope test for pilots in India. Reports say that, the DGCA is considering random annual dope test for pilots in India.
While interacting with press, the Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said that there are multiple ways of approaching this dope test. Right now, the rule says 10% across the overall pilot network.
The DGCA is engaging, and one of the opinions from the Ministry is that everyone has to go through dope test for pilots in India in the year at a random time.
The Ministry however has to see how all the stakeholders are going to respond to this. One is the safety aspect of it, and the second thing is the operational impact, which also has to be taken into consideration.
So the Ministry and DGCA are considering the Pros and Cons and how to to balance both the aspects. But if the Ministry and DGCA were to implement 100% testing strategizing would play and important part.
It is worth mentioning here that, there was a recent incident in which an Air India flight plunged by 300 ft and passengers an crew were injured. It has been alleged that the pilot supposedly failed the dope test.
