Is Your Paneer Real or Fake? 5 Simple Tests You Can Try at Home

Ahead of Rakhi, when the demand for sweets soar there has been a raid by BMC. This has been done to detect and seize fake paneer in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha.

The crackdown on Analogue or Synthetic paneer in Bhubaneswar has been done by the BMC Health Department.

Here are 5 easy ways to identify adulterated paneer at home:

Check the texture—True paneer feels soft has a crumbly feel and a natural milky texture; paneer that feels very rubbery unusually hard or excessively chewy may be adulterated.

Boil an amount – Place the paneer in water and boil for a few minutes. If the paneer is too oily has a smell or feels extremely rubbery this could be a warning sign.

Take the paneer and rub it between your fingers—true paneer is usually soft and breaks easily. However be careful if the paneer feels abnormally slippery, waxy or overly greasy.

Check the paneer’s smell and taste— paneer should have a slight milky odour and flavour. If the paneer has a chemical smell or an odd sourness or a bitter taste the paneer should not be eaten.
